South Africa Selection by CMB Opens Its 3rd Edition in the Heart of the Robertson Wine Valley
The 3rd edition of the South Africa Selection by CMB, presented by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles | CMB, opens today in the Robertson Wine Valley. For three days, until 28 October, the tasting tables will be set in one of the Cape’s most celebrated wine regions.
Since 1994, the CMB has made a point of looking beyond borders, going to meet wine regions wherever they are and giving their terroirs a place in its competitions. In that landscape, South Africa could not be missing. With more than three centuries of winemaking history, a unique identity built on Chenin Blanc, Pinotage and Cap Classique, and a new generation of producers who keep raising the bar, the country has earned its place among the great wine nations. The South Africa Selection by CMB is the CMB’s way of acknowledging it, on the ground and alongside the people who shape the industry.
A snapshot of the Cape in the glass
This year’s wines reflect the variety of the South African vineyard. Cap Classique sparkling wines sit alongside Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc, while Pinotage, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux- and Rhône-style blends represent the reds, with a Red Muscadel adding a sweet, traditional touch. They come from across the Western Cape, from Robertson, Worcester and Breedekloof to Stellenbosch, Paarl, Swartland, Darling and Overberg.
About the Robertson Wine Valley
Nestled along Route 62 in the Breede River Valley, between the Langeberg and Riviersonderend mountain ranges, the Robertson Wine Valley is one of South Africa’s leading quality wine regions. Its warm, dry climate and diverse soils, from lime-rich alluvial plains to calcareous, shale-based foothills, give the valley’s wines their distinctive character, with Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and Cap Classique among its standout varietals.
Why South Africa Selection by CMB?
While the international Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is geared towards global recognition and export market credibility, the South Africa Selection is specifically designed to drive impact within the local market. Wines are evaluated according to the same rigorous standards that underpin the global competition, but by a panel predominantly comprising influential South African wine professionals, buyers, distributors and journalists who understand the nuances of the local industry and consumer landscape.
A medal from the South Africa Selection by CMB gives producers a powerful endorsement that can enhance visibility, strengthen brand credibility and influence purchasing decisions in one of the world’s most competitive wine-producing nations. Results will be announced following the competition.
